This article explains what AdBlock360 is, how it differs from other ad blockers, and which platforms it supports.
AdBlock360 Is an App — Not a Browser Extension
Most ad blockers are browser extensions: small add-ons that only work inside one specific browser (like Chrome or Firefox). They can only block ads that appear in that browser, and they stop working if you switch browsers or use a different app.
AdBlock360 is different. It is a full Windows application that runs at the operating system level. This means it works across your entire device — not just inside a single browser. Ads and trackers are blocked before they even reach your screen, regardless of which browser or app you are using.
The Browser Extension Is a Control Layer — Not the Blocker Itself
AdBlock360 also offers an optional Browser Assistant extension for Chrome (from the Chrome Web Store). This extension is not the ad blocker — the Windows app handles all actual blocking. The extension is just a convenient control panel that lets you manage AdBlock360 directly from your browser toolbar.
For example, with the extension you can:
- Pause or resume ad blocking for a specific website
- See how many ads have been blocked (a session/total counter, not per-page)
- Access AdBlock360 settings without opening the app's main window
Important: The Browser Extension requires the AdBlock360 Windows app to be installed and running. It does not work on its own.
Why System-Level Blocking Is More Effective
Browser extensions can only see and block content that passes through the browser. System-level blocking works earlier in the process — it intercepts network requests before they are handled by any app. This means:
- Ads in apps and games are also blocked, not just in browsers
- Tracking is stopped earlier, before data leaves your device
- Ad blocking works even in browsers where installing extensions is difficult or impossible
